About the Project

We activated our space the day before Juneteenth with what we called a “Juneteenth Pre-Game” event. We created art areas that set folks up to be ready to celebrate Juneteenth the next day. We had canvas bag for decorating and a community mural where community members could reflect on what Juneteenth meant to them. We also had free food for community members and free hair cuts!

About Juneteenth

Juneteenth is an annual holiday celebrated across the United States to commemorate the days that enslaved Africans found out that they were free over three years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.
