Moments in the Movement
On February 22, 2019 the Duluth Branch of the NAACP held their second annual Freedom Fund Dinner. The dinner was an opportunity for the branch to raise awareness, spirits, and funds. The dinner was emceed by Sandra Gbeintor and organized by the Freedom Fund Committee. The keynote speaker was Dr. Mary Canty Merrill. A talented artist from the Duluth community, Moira Villiard, won the Take a Stand for the Revolution Award.
As an organization, we also designed all the print and digital material to help promote and brand the event. We were inspired by moments in the movement that have enacted change including; Fredrick Douglas’ powerful speeches, Rosa Parks’ activism in Alabama, and Edward Crawford returning tear gas to the police at Ferguson. We used these scenes to create four different poster for the event, that were collected by many community members.
