This workshop was led by our Creative Director, Terri, at the UMD Commission on Equity, Race, and Ethnicity’s 2018 Summit: Creating Inclusive Communities. The abstract was as follows:
There are many opportunities inside (and out) of the classroom, that allow students the opportunity to use critical thinking to design creative solutions that make our world a better place. This session will cover a range of different projects and assignments that use design research as a means to discuss and actively engage with the symptoms of systemic oppression and societal norms that affect marginalized populations. Attendees will leave the session with ideas about how they too can use assignments to address social issues and evoke positive change.
