About the Project

We partnered with Hennepin County to create a community-engaged story-telling campaign to decrease these disparities and create accessible opportunities for our communities to prevent, respond to, treat, and recover from opioid use. We crafted visuals that highlighted community members and their stories through print, digital, bus, billboards, and video.

Addressing the Opioid Crisis’ Affects on Black/African American Communities in Hennepin County

Research shows that the Black/African-American communities in Hennepin county experience some of the highest rates of overdose, deaths, and hospitalizations due to the affects of synthetic opioids across Minnesota. “Hennepin County’s response recognizes that the opioid epidemic is complex and requires a multi-faceted health and safety response.”

The Campaign: Right Now for Radical Futures

It is true that the opioid crisis is happening right now, but, hopefully, not forever. Holding the truth of the crisis and hope that we are addressing this issue for a better future, what are we doing now for a better tomorrow? Right now, we are creating preventative response for radical futures. Right now, we are creating accessible and lengthy treatment programs for healing. Right now, we’re eliminating disparities so that our children’s children can live in a Black liberatory world.
